The Pig Pen

I'm the last person I thought would ever create a blog. It's my lame attempt to give my family and friends a means of keeping up with my goings on and those of my kids. This way, I can prove I haven't fallen off the earth and that I do think of you all often.. even if I don't show it. Here goes!

Gobble 'til you wobble!!!

I just wanted to take a few minutes to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving holiday. Seems we're all spread out this year!! But you're all close at heart and I hope everyone has a wonderful time!
The kids and Doug are well in NZ and having a grand time. I received an email from Doug's sister, Louise, this morning. Everyone is fawning over the American cousins!!! Grandma is over the moon I am sure! Michaela is well in North Carolina. She texts often :) I love and miss you guys, but am happy knowing you are with loved ones and enjoying your vacations!
Had Jeremy and Pat over for dinner last night. That was great fun. We were having quite the time surfing YouTube. Took Jeremy to the airport this morning . He's gone to NJ for the holiday and will return with his girlfriend who is moving here over the weekend. Maybe his blog will become more tolerable now. Love ya, Jer! LOLOLOL ;0 )
We busted butt in clinic today and were able to escape about 25 mins early. So I am just doing this real quick and packing up and heading south. I've been invited to Marshall to spend Tday with the St. Aubins.
Thought this little piece of artwork was just the donning glory to my post! Enjoy!!

Before Danica Patrick..

I've been breaking speed records long before this Miss Patrick was outta diapers. My Dad always said I drove too fast or I shoulda been a racecar driver. And maybe I've missed my chance because I do love speed. Do ya see where this is going?? Dad, you can stop rolling your eyes NOW!! LOL Yes, lead foot has come through again!

I was always wondering why when I drove south I never saw any patrol cars on the hwys I travel. Well... apparently it's because they travel these hwys early on weekdays catching those commuters.. Hmmmm.. So I had a little visit with one of Minnesota's finest on Monday morning! I just don't see how they can make the speed limit 55 on a road that is flat, straight, and has little traffic on it for 150 miles! C'mon! Ok .. yes.. you're right, it's not up to me!! And laws are there for a reason ..yeah, yeah, I know!

Fortunately, he was feeling generous, I was wearing scrubs, and he made some comment about getting to my hospital shift on time (which I just nodded and agreed on) and he gave me a lighter fine! Yes, yet another thing to be thankful for this week.

Think I'd better hop on Santa's lap and ask for a radar/laser detector. Yes, slowing down is also an option.

Thanksgiving: Take 1

As I previously mentioned, I had Thanksgiving at my place this past Friday. Had Doug, the kids, and my friends, Jeremy and Kim at the table! And we had the 'normal' Tday faire. Everyone enjoyed themselves ( I hope) and Jer stayed on later into the night for drinks and chatting with Doug and me.

Oddly, I have just realized that for all the times I've mentioned Jer on my blog, I don't think I've ever posted his photo! Strange! So! Ta-da! There he is!

Michaela left Saturday for a 7 day stay in NC with Ray et al. And Doug and the smalls left yesterday afternoon for a 13 day trip to New Zealand. Grandma is turning 75 on Friday and they are surprising her! Hopefully she doesn't have a heart attack!

I'm thankful for many things, but this week it's solitude!! I have several projects due in the next couple weeks before finals start. Including a paper I have due in 17 hrs that I haven't yet started! So this will give me time to catch up a bit.

Antler Antics

Ok...Michaela helped me with a little project involving these antlers the other night. Then she got really goofy with them!!!! I have to admit I was laughing pretty hard. And some of these turned out so funny I HAD to share them! I really like how Griffin's eyes are "Grinch green" LOL

Lots going on this week. Doug arrives tomorrow from Cedar Rapids (from a job site). Gonna do an early Thanksgiving spread on Friday with Doug, the kids and a few friends from school. Should be fun! Best to do a little something now while we're all together!

School went rather well this week. Course, the fact that I skipped out on 4 hrs of lecture yesterday, helped. I haven't missed a class in the entire 15 months I've been at that joint. So...I think I was entitled :) Did my 2 local anesthetic proficiencies in clinic today!!! Proficiencies are little 'tests' we do with our instructors or dentists. We have certain ones to do each semester. I was a lot nervous for this one as I haven't done an injection in nearly 4 months and this was the first time I'd done them on an actual patient!! But it came back to me rather readily and I nailed all 3 injections I did!!! WOOOOO HOOOOOOO!

Jeremy and I went to Ghengis Grill (mongolian bbq place) for dinner, a couple drinks and some chat. I will finish his scaling and root planing next week :( Gonna miss having him there!! LOL Poor guy has been a real trooper! Thanks again, Jer!! After dinner, I stopped in at Caribou Coffee and sat and chatted with another regular, Evan, for a while. Nice relaxing end to a hectic day of ortho, lawyer and doctor appts, mixed in with school and violin lessons!! EGADS!!!

And tomorrow is my Friday!!! Yippeeeeee!!

70 degrees - 37 degrees/2 days = snow

Yeah...I was right.. 48 hours after that amazing 70 degree day... it's snowing!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGH! The kiddies were excited though! Had a hard time getting them loaded in the van for school this morning as they were so giddy! Here's a few pics I took before we took off on the morning dash.

Just got back from Rebecca's school. I was the class Guest Reader today. We chose a NZ story called "The Little Kowhai Tree". Did a little background on the Kowhai tree etc. The classmates loved it! They and their teacher had lots of great questions about New Zealand.

Afterwards, I had lunch with Becca and her class. I've decided they drug these kids for the afternoon, cuz I have been hideously tired since leaving there!

Random Ramblings

Nice how my vest matches my blog background, eh?

Took this photo tonight .... Jer and I had just gotten back from our walk to Caribou Coffee. It's about 65 degrees out - 4 hrs past sunset!!! It's November 8th and it's glorious out! Can ya tell I'm stoked about that? I was yapping to my buddy, Max, from Montana, (Ok..he's probably the bestest bud ever. We've known eachother since we were 3.) while on my deck burning my tiki torch. Ahhhhh just like July, without the bugs!! Perfection! One last blast of summer. Apparently, in about 48 hrs it'll be 38 and showery.. snow showery I am guessing! And that near ecstatic smile on my face will be gone!

Thanks for the surprise phone call today!! Made my day!

Been a busy week. Lots of stuff. Got my mommy-mobile back. I'm not happy. I miss my little Maxima! I put a thousand miles on it while I had it. I think we had a serious bond!!! SIGH!!! Kids' school conferences went VERY well and I'm so proud of them! Michaela has really made great strides and has made great improvements over last year! YEAH!!!

Been doing some lawyer shopping. Think I found a very good one. Just taking care of formalities. Should be much less tragic than the first go around. Which is totally awesome! And just a bit of FYI.. it's now referred to as a "Marital Termination Agreement", or an MTA, as opposed to a divorce LOL Whatever!

I've had people ask me if I'd get married again. And until recently, I'd flat out answer "no!". Even my Dad says "well you know, your Mom always said 'third time's a charm'! " While that is true, somehow, I am not sure she was referring to marriage LOL

And on that note.. here're some words of wisdom....

Who do you decide who to marry? (A kids’ look at love)

You got to find somebody who likes the same stuff. Like, if you like sports, she should like it that you like sports, and she should keep the chips and dip coming.-- Alan, age 10

No person really decides before they grow up who they're going to marry. God decides it all way before, and you get to find out later who you're stuck with.-- Kristen, age 10

WHAT IS THE RIGHT AGE TO GET MARRIED?

Twenty-three is the best age because you know the person FOREVER by then.-- Camille, age 10

HOW CAN A STRANGER TELL IF TWO PEOPLE ARE MARRIED?

You might have to guess, based on whether they seem to be yelling at the same kids.-- Derrick, age 8

WHAT DO YOU THINK YOUR MOM AND DAD HAVE IN COMMON?

Both don't want any more kids.-- Lori, age 8

WHAT DO MOST PEOPLE DO ON A DATE?

Dates are for having fun, and people should use them to get to know each other. Even boys have something to say if you listen long enough.-- Lynnette, age 8 (isn't she a treasure)

On the first date, they just tell each other lies and that Usually gets them interested enough to go for a second date.-- Martin, age 10

WHAT WOULD YOU DO ON A FIRST DATE THAT WAS TURNING SOUR?

I'd run home and play dead. The next day I would call all the newspapers and make sure they wrote about me in all the dead columns.-- Craig, age 9

WHEN IS IT OKAY TO KISS SOMEONE?

When they're rich.-- Pam, age 7

The law says you have to be eighteen, so I wouldn't want to mess with that.- - Curt, age 7

The rule goes like this: If you kiss someone, then you should marry them and have kids with them. It's the right thing to do.-- Howard, age 8

IS IT BETTER TO BE SINGLE OR MARRIED?

It's better for girls to be single but not for boys. Boys need someone to clean up after them.-- Anita, age 9 (bless you child)

HOW WOULD THE WORLD BE DIFFERENT IF PEOPLE DIDN'T GET MARRIED?

There sure would be a lot of kids to explain, wouldn't there?-- Kelvin, age 8

And the #1 Favorite is........
HOW WOULD YOU MAKE A MARRIAGE WORK?

Tell your wife that she looks pretty, even if she looks like a truck.-- Ricky, age 10
